A quick drawing of a mantou*. I used to eat a lot of these when I was a kid; I remember I had the chicken pox in the fifth grade and was reduced to a very plain diet of congee, mantous, and other "simple" foods to reduce possible digestive reactions. The first day I returned to school, my mom gave me a mantou to eat instead of the typical school lunch which can be pretty greasy from a Chinese parent's POV. The other kids asked why I brought in a bar of soap.
Being in a primarily White school, I felt embarassed to eat it. Poor mantou.
*mantou -- a type of steamed Chinese bun, often with no fillings though recently there are flavored variants.
"mantou" is the proper pinyin, which follows the pronounciation for Mandarin. "montou" is the phonetics for Cantonese, based on American-English pronounciation of "on" and "ou". (It's also not official, but people know what it is anyway!)

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
